Adventitia degeneration cystic

Formation of a liquid-filled cavity in the vascular wall of an artery. Expansion of the volume can lead to secondary stenosis of the affected artery with the risk of thrombosis. The cyst content consists of gelatinous fluid. Preferably the A. poplitea is affected.

The average age of the patients is about 35 years.

Remark: because atherosclerotic changes of an artery are rare at this age of manifestation, cystic adventitia degeneration must always be considered in case of sudden arterial occlusion.

Direct removal of the cyst. Alternatively: creation of a short bypass.
